Dry Ice removes twice as much heat per pound as water ice and has the added advantage of changing directly from a solid to a gas without ever becoming a liquid hence the term "dry ice". Dry ice is available in two common forms: block and pellets. Block dry ice weighs, on the average, 55 pounds. It can be cut in a variety of smaller square sizes to accommodate specific needs. Pellet ice is generally easier to handle and is the preferred choice for special effect needs. If you are looking for longevity, the block is better.

Special Effects Put dry ice in a small pail with warm water and you have witches brew or fog. A fantastic Halloween special effect.

Camping Trip Put dry ice in the top of your cooler to keep your frozen foods frozen for longer periods of time. Put it on the side of the cooler to keep cold items cold. It will freeze whatever is directly next to it, so pack the cooler accordingly.

Shipping Shipping steaks, fish, or another frozen food product to someone? Use dry ice to keep the product frozen during the process. There are certain limits on how much dry ice can be shipped, but a little goes a long way.

New Dry Ice Cleaning System This unique product is one of the newest and most exciting uses of dry ice. It incorporates a cleaning system similar to, but totally unlike, a sandblasting machine. The cleaning device uses either micro-pellets of dry ice (about the size of a piece of rice) or shaved block ice. The machine cleans most of the things that you would generally use a sandblaster or pressure washer for. The big difference is that there is no sand or water to clean up afterwards. Because dry ice goes from a solid to a gas, the only mess you will have to clean up is what came off the item you cleaned.
